There is no question that the Savage is a fine bike with a true personality of its own.
Equally however there is truth in the lightness of the scoot on the open highway.
In 1999, when I first took the plunge for my Ole Yellar - I thought it was the best bike I ever had owned. The longest ride that summer was about 350 miles in 10 hours (500+ kms). The next day I was pretty wrecked - but I admit that I did stretch the day by riding through the night going home!
Last summer I rode my 1974 BMW home from a Rally in Montana covering 600 miles (1000 Kms) in 11 hours and 45 minutes. For fun the next morning I took the Savage for a ride. There really was no comparison between the two rides.
There is a place in my world for more than one bike - thank god - and my partner of these past 34 years is willing to endulge my collection of things with two wheels.
The Savage holds a place of honor in the collection but for a long day of riding - I have to agree with Jabawaki and his experiences with the V-Star.
Keep the rubber side down
